Barry A. Fleming joined the firm in 1994 after
graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law. Since becoming
a partner within the Litigation Group in 1999, Mr. Fleming's practice
has included local government law, probate litigation, collections,
workers' compensation, defense, and some plaintiff's practice.
Besides his law practice, Barry has been active in his
local community as a public servant. He served as a Columbia County
Commissioner from 1999 to 2002 and was elected Chairman of the Board in
2001 and 2002. Upon election to the Georgia House of Representatives in
2002, Barry was appointed to the position of Deputy Whip and was
selected to serve on the Judiciary, Transportation, and local
governmental committees.
In 2004 Barry was reelected without opposition. In the
historic 2004 elections Georgians gave Republicans a majority in the
State House of Representatives for the first time in over 130 years.
After serving only one term, in November 2004 Barry was elected by his
fellow representatives to the position of Majority Whip, the second
highest position in the House Republican Caucus. As the Whip, he is an
Ex-Officio voting member of all committees in the House. Barry is also
a standing member of the committees on Appropriations, Rules,
