A native Augustan, Art graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, cum laude, in 1978. He then entered the Lumpkin School of Law at UGA, where he served as a Senior Staff Member of the Georgia Law Review and wrote articles published by that periodical and the American Business Law Journal. Upon graduating in 1981, Art joined the Fulcher firm and since that time has enjoyed a successful and varied practice here in the area of civil litigation.

For over thirty years, Art has practiced in the state and federal trial courts of eastern Georgia and western South Carolina. He has litigated hundreds of cases in those courts involving a variety of issues including automobile and trucking accidents, premises liability, product liability, railroad accidents, and professional liability. He has also argued cases before the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the federal Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits. In 2009 and 2010 Super Lawyers magazine recognized Art as one of the top area lawyers in the field of Civil Litigation Defense, and he has earned the highest “AV Preeminent” rating from the respected attorney rating service Martindale Hubbell. He is also listed in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Art has also been active in professional and community activities. As a younger lawyer he was President of the Augusta Young Lawyers Club in 1990. He served for four years on the Executive Committee of the Augusta Bar Association, and was its President in 2008. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the South Carolina Bar, Defense Research Institute and Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, and is a Fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia. Art served several years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of his church, Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist, and remains active on other committees there.
