Susan graduated from Westside High School in Augusta and received her undergraduate degree from Auburn University (B.A.).  She returned to college and received her nursing degree from the University of South Carolina-Aiken.  After practicing as a nurse, she was employed as a legal nurse consultant at Nelson Mullins in Columbia, S.C.  She later returned to school, this time to obtain her law degree from the University of Richmond (J.D., cum laude).  While attending law school she received awards in the areas of Constitutional Law, Insurance Law, and Products Liability Law.  She was also inducted into the McNeill Society.  The Society honors students who are in the top ten percent of their class.  After graduation she returned to her hometown of Augusta and joined Fulcher Hagler, LLP as an associate where she has practiced for over 15 years.  Susan became a partner in 2003.  She is a member of the Augusta Bar Association, the Augusta Family Law Bar, State Bar of Georgia, DRI, and GDLA.

Due to her background in the medical field, she possesses significant insight into the workings of local health care facilities including hospitals and physician practices.  As a former registered nurse, she is uniquely qualified to defend medical liability matters.  She comes from a local family with multiple medical and dental members, and has developed a network of medical and dental contacts in the greater Augusta area.  Susan additionally advises clients and represents them in matters relevant to the Composite State Medical Board and Dental Board.  She has been involved in multiple cases wherein she provided advice about federal statutes including HIPAA and EMTALA, securing summary judgment for several rural facilities where allegations were made involving such statutes.  She has also been quite successful at securing summary judgments and dismissals for a number of her medical and dental clients.  Recently, she secured summary judgment in an infant brain damage case on behalf of the physician where the plaintiffs were alleging over $5 million dollars in damages.

Susan has expanded her practice to handling family law issues including divorce, child custody, and child support issues.  She has personal experience in adoption and divorce/child custody and support issues, making her empathetic with her clients experiencing family law issues.  Susan also practices in the areas of general civil litigation and collections.  She specializes in finding individualized solutions for her clients.

Susan is married to Mark Mulherin, who is a partner in Mulherin Lumber Company, a local family retail lumber business.  They are active members of Warren Baptist Church and the Augusta Country Club.
